In
several earlier
conversations on this show, guests have pointed out that these days
many people are living into their nineties and that in many
locales, centenarians are the fastest growing segment of the
population. Yet as longevity
increases, many people will very likely not have accumulated enough
wealth to sustain the comfortable lifestyle they were accustomed
to.
Here to share his perspective on longevity and
money is, David Rosell, founder and president of Rosell Wealth
Management, and author of Failure
Is NOT an Option-
Creating Certainty in the Uncertainty of
Retirement.
I was reflecting that what really constitutes wealth and a
comfortable lifestyle is not just a question for our current times.
Greek philosophers pondered this same question 2000 years ago. Around 300 BC Plato said “The greatest wealth
is to live content with little” while 400 years later, Stoic philosopher,
Epictetus, echoed this thought “Wealth consists not In having
great possessions but in having few wants.”
So the questions for those looking
ahead from mid-life retirement to several
decades of life, become what are our essential wants, and what will we
need to live content in a world that is vastly different not only
from 2000 years ago but from a mere 100 years ago?
To answer these questions, for over 20 years
David Rosell has specialized in working with affluent individuals
and families who are at or near retirement to help them live the
life they have always imagined. David’s inspiration and zest for
life have been shaped by a lifetime of international adventures.
With a current tally of more than 75 countries on six different
continents, his quest for extreme travel has included hitchhiking
from Nairobi to Cape Town, Africa and climbing the
infamous peaks of the Nepalese Himalayas. He was
even partook in tearing down the Berlin
Wall.
As a recipient of the Retirement Distribution
Certificate from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School
of Business, David excels in making complicated
financial planning topics easy to understand. An
accomplished speaker, he has addressed international
audiences numbering in the thousands, including the Million
Dollar Roundtable® and Vistage Worldwide.
David is also the author of a second book that
melds his passions of adventure and finance: Keep Climbing - A
Millennial’s Guide to Financial Planning.
As a grandmother, I loved reading that David
dedicated Failure is Not an Option, to his grandmother, Ruth, whose
financial and life lessons shaped him into the successful
man he is today.
His adventure travel stories lead to insights
about wants, wealth and contentment.
